Jason Bauer

President

Jason Bauer began working at Poggio Civitate in 2003 as a field school student. He returned in 2004 as a researcher, aided by an undergraduate summer research grant from Tufts University on Industry and Exchange in Early Italy. He became site director in 2006, and in 2007 the assistant director. He now serves as Director of Operations for the Program.  He currently works in New York City in residential real estate.

 

Marianna Bender

Vice President, Outreach and Events; Treasurer

Marianna Bender began her work at Poggio Civitate as a field student in 2006 while studying at Tufts University. During the 2007 and 2008 field seasons she returned to Poggio Civitate as an assistant to the architect of record. She received her Masters of Design in Interior Architecture from The Rhode Island School of Design in 2016. She lives and works in New York City.

 

Katharine Kreindler

Vice President, Academics and Grants; Secretary

Kate Kreindler began working at Poggio Civitate as an undergraduate field school student in 2003, the summer after her freshman year of college.  She has worked at Poggio Civitate continuously since then and now is the Associate Director of Excavations, overseeing all excavations and field school activities at the site.  Due largely to her time spent at Poggio Civitate, she has gone on to earn a Ph.D. in classical archaeology from Stanford University.  She specializes in the archaeology of pre-Roman Italy and focuses on economic development in Etruria and commercial ties between Etruria, Greece, and Rome.

Anthony Tuck

Chair, Academic Board

Anthony Tuck first began working at Poggio Civitate as an undergraduate participant on the field school in 1989. Since then, he has gone on to receive his Ph.D. from Brown University in 1996 and assumed the responsibilities of directing the project following the retirement of his professor and predecessor, Erik Nielsen. He is the author of numerous works on the site and is especially interested in the ritual behaviors of early aristocratic groups and frequently explores the influence of mythological narrative within early political behavior.

 

Cara Polisini

Vice-Chair, Academic Board

Cara Polisini began working at Poggio Civitate in 2011 as a participant in the field school, and has been the head cataloger for the past three seasons. In between summers she has received a Master's in Classical Archaeology from Stanford in 2014, and a Master's in Information Studies from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016. She currently lives in Austin where she is pursuing a career in archaeological data management.
